here's the deal, romney is not going to try to bring it up in the debate. nor will president obama. the moment you do, have you opened the door for your opponent. >> you have to look in the mirror, it's an ugly picture. >> the responsibility is going to rest on the debate mod rater who is not going to do it. >> what people are saying is, can i get somebody to tell me the truth? i will say this here. you can parse words all you want to. there are some things called undeniable truth. no matter how you want to dance around it, there are some things that are very clear. some things are true, some things are false. >> there's also such a thing as throwing things against the wall and that is what the obama campaign has been effective at doing and the romney campaign hasn't been effective at doing that. >> the romney campaign, they have been -- i can show you the proof. go to our website. we have all the time. again, you have campaigns -- >> check up on after the fact. >> no, no. that's my point. you said earlier -- >> you want to call. >> you said don't fact check during the debate. i sid

if you really think about what barack obama's problem was the last debate, he kept looking down at his notes and seemed to not really engage either romney or the moderator, for whatever his reasons. this time it's going to be different. he will be talking to the voter, so you really want to go right at them and talk to them as if you're their best friend. i would be studying, if i were both of them, bill clinton tapes. >> some analysts say that they thought the president perhaps misjudged here because he was speaking directly to the camera, directly to the american people, but he wasn't speaking to his opponent. he wasn't speaking to the moderator, and people didn't feel like he was quite engaged there. what needs to happen for both of them to have a strong performance, and how do you think the president might recalculate, recalibrate what he does next go-round? >> well, he is better -- you know, he is going to have to do much, much better, as we all know. i think he has to relax a little more. he has to seem like he wants to be there. he is going to have to really have a kind of diffe

there are lots of polls, but certain polls show the public expects obama to win this debate. but you point out in your piece that the obama team was to at least convince people that these date d debates really don't matter. why is that? >> it is interesting that they're trying to spin things that way. my theory is that they're worried that because the president's reputation as a fantastic speaker and he is a good speaker that the audience will be tuning in expecting to see obama win. and if romney just holds his own, if he just lands a few punches, then the audience might actually think that romney won. so i suspect team obama is trying to lower expectations trying to say the debates don't matter precisely because they're worried that mitt romney will do a good job. >> speaking of throwing punches, let's go back to primary season, it was mitt romney really in his big win taking florida that was quite impressive for the former massachusetts governor. let me just -- in case we have forgotten his abilities, take a look. >> i want people to be able to take their insurance with th
